It is not uncommon for cancers to become drug-resistant at some point during chemotherapy, according to Matthes Huesker and colleagues, University Hospital Freiburg, Freiburg, Germany.
"The multidrug resistance (MDR) transporters MDR1-P-glycoprotein and MRP2 (multidrug-associated protein 2) are expressed in almost 50% of human cancers, including hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs)," Huesker and coauthors explained in Hepatology.
