Rel/NF-kappa B transcription factors regulate apoptosis of HCC cells

M.D. Anderson Cancer Center surgical oncologists conducted a study of Rel/NF-kappaB transcription factors to see if they had any regulatory role in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells.

Noting that "the mechanism by which HCC cells resist apoptosis induced by various treatment modalities is poorly understood," they "assessed constitutive and inducible activation of NF-kappaB in hepatitis B virus (HBV) positive (Hep3B) and in hepatitis virus negative (Chang, HepG2) HCC, cells, as well as the role of known inhibitors of NF-kappaB activity."
