Gastrointestinal transit slows in patients with primary liver cancer

by Sonia Nichols, senior medical writer - Researchers in Taiwan have learned that slowed gastrointestinal transit plagues primary liver cancer patients just as much as it does those diagnosed with cirrhosis.

A team at Taipei Veterans General Hospital in Taiwan has explored the flow of digestion products through the gastrointestinal (GI) tract in people diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a liver cancer linked to viral hepatitis, alcohol consumption, and other causes. The team found delayed GI transit among individuals with HCC, according to a report in Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
