Recurrent hepatitis can remain undetected after liver transplantation

Patient follow-up is essential for determining whether or not autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) reappears after orthotopic liver transplantation. Follow-up regimens can include liver function tests and liver biopsies. Researchers in France now report that tests for biochemical recurrence may not depict an accurate picture of liver health in transplanted AIH patients.
