"Fatty liver disease involves the accumulation of triglycerides in hepatocytes, necrosis of hepatocytes, inflammation, and often fibrosis with progression to cirrhosis. The two-hit model summarizes the important early metabolic events leading to hepatocellular necrosis in non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).
