Ninety-two people infected with hepatitis A in central Romanian

More than ninety people have been infected with hepatitis A in a central Romanian city; half of those stricken are children, a hospital director said.

Felicia Constandis said the outbreak of hepatitis A in Brasov, a city of 350,000, is not unusual for the time of year. She said she did not know where the outbreak started.

Half of the victims were children, some as young as 2 years of age, who had not been vaccinated, said Constandis by telephone. She is the director of the city's Hospital of Infectious Diseases, some 150 kilometers (90 miles) north of Bucharest.
