New findings in the area of addiction medicine described

Investigators in Australia and the United States have published new addiction medicine data.

Study 1: Mixed hepatitis C genotypes in injection drug users cut antiviral efficacy.

"Multiple genotypes of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) were detected in 5 of 138 HCV RNA positive injecting drug users (IDUs) recruited in Melbourne, Australia," investigators in Australia report.

"Two were detected by combined LiPA and core and NS5a region sequencing, and three more (selected for testing due to their high- risk behavior) by heteroduplex mobility analysis," according to S. Bowden and colleagues, Macfarlane Burnet Institute for Medical Research...
