Percutaneous ethanol injection is as safe and effective as surgical resection as a first-line treatment against small hepatocellular carcinoma.

G.T. Huang and associates at the National Taiwan University Hospital conducted a study "To compare disease recurrence and survival among patients with small hepatocellular carcinoma after surgical resection or percutaneous ethanol injection therapy, two treatments that have not been evaluated with a prospective study."
