Albumin dialysis may improve mitochondrial function in patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection.

According to recent research published in the journal Transplantation Proceedings, "oxidative injury occurs as a direct result of HCV core protein expression both in vitro and in vivo, and may be due to a direct effect on mitochondria."
