Subcutaneous tissues are thicker in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

Scientists in the United States conducted a study that used sonography to measure the thickness of subcutaneous tissues in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) versus other chronic liver diseases.

T.R. Riley and colleagues, Penn State University, wrote that the study was undertaken "to measure an average subcutaneous tissue thickness in NAFLD and other liver diseases using bedside sonography and make comparisons of thickness between groups. The study also addressed whether a cut-off subcutaneous tissue thickness exists below which NAFLD is unlikely."
