HAV vaccine responses occur in HIV-infected children during HAART

A study from the United States has reported on antibody responses to hepatitis A virus (HAV) vaccine in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected children with evidence of immunologic reconstitution while receiving highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART).

"HIV-infected patients have weak responses to vaccines and may require revised immunization regimens. We investigated the safety and immunogenicity of 2 doses of HAV vaccine followed by a booster dose in HIV-infected children receiving stable HAART," wrote A. Weinberg and colleagues, University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
