Polymorphism exists in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and HCV-related liver steatosis

A study from Turkey has detailed peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPAR alpha) L162V polymorphism in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and genotype 1 hepatitis C virus (HCV)-related liver steatosis.

"PPAR alpha plays important roles in lipid metabolism. A recently discovered L162V polymorphism of the PPARa gene is associated with enhanced transcriptional activity."
