HCV-like particles generated in different cells bind differently to target hepatoma cells

According to a study from Japan, hepatitis C virus (HCV)-like particles (HCV-LP) generated in different cells bind differently to target hepatoma cells.

"Although processing of the HCV polyprotein and characterization of each of its viral proteins have been described in detail, analysis of the structure and assembly of HCV particles has been hampered by the lack of a robust cell culture system to support efficient replication of HCV," wrote E. Matsuo and colleagues, Osaka University.

"In this study, we generated HCV-LP using a recombinant baculovirus encoding structural and a part of non-structural proteins in a human hepatoma cell line."
