 Echinococcus multilocularis-induced liver infection detected in France

Echinococcus multilocularis-induced liver infection was detected in a patient traveling in the west of France.

"Echinococcus multilocularis-induced liver infection was diagnosed in a Moroccan patient. Diagnosis was based on CT scan results and Western Blot test," investigators in France report.

According to L. Costes and colleagues at Hospital Bicetre in Le Kremlin Bicetre, "Contamination probably occurred in France, in the Cherbourg area where the patient traveled frequently and ate wild berries."
