Study 1: Recent research from the United States published in the journal Liver Transplantation has proposed an immune evasion target for hepatitis C virus (HCV).

"Liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma secondary to chronic HCV infection requiring transplantation represents a significant public health problem. The most remarkable feature of HCV is the ability to establish chronic infection in the vast majority of cases.

"Efforts to define clinical correlates of HCV persistence have focused primarily on CD4 and CD8 T cell responses....
