Study 1: A recent study from Spain has chronicled the effect of highly active anti-retroviral therapy (HAART) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) co-infection on serum levels of pro-inflammatory and immunoregulatory cytokines in human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1)-infected individuals.
"This study aimed to determine the effect of HAART and HCV co-infection on peripheral levels of interleukin (IL)-2, IL-10, IL-12 (p70), IL-18 and soluble tumor necrosis factor receptor type II (sTNFRII)," wrote C. Tornero and colleagues, San Francisco de Borja Hospital.
