Study 1: A study from the United States has reported on the impact of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection on the prevalence and severity of steatosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection.
"Although steatosis is strongly associated with HCV infection, little is known about this finding in patients coinfected with HIV and HCV," wrote I. Gaslightwala and colleagues, VA New York Harbor Healthcare Systems. "The aims of the present study were to determine the prevalence and severity of steatosis in HIV/HCV coinfected patients."
