Hepatitis B virus promoter mutations influence hepatocellular carcinoma

A study from Taiwan has reported on the role of hepatitis B virus (HBV) precore/core promoter mutations and serum viral load on noncirrhotic hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

"Apart from the presence of liver cirrhosis, HBV factors have also been shown to play a role in the development of HCC. Studying HBV-related noncirrhotic HCC may help clarify the effect of viral factors, according to C.J. Liu and colleagues, National Taiwan University.
