Research from Ege University, Department of Gastroenterology yields new findings on hepatitis B virus

Research findings, "Liver fibrosis is associated with decreased peripheral platelet count in patients with chronic hepatitis B and C," are discussed in a new report. "Thrombocytopenia is a common complication of chronic liver diseases, but its pathogenesis is not clear. Although generally attributed to hypersplenism, other factors should also be considered," researchers in Izmir, Turkey report.
