Hormone maker comments on WHI estrogen-only study data

Newly published results of the U.S. National Institutes of Health Women's Health Initiative (WHI) trial should reassure women of the robust effect estrogen has on preventing bone fracture, with no increased risk of breast cancer, when followed for about 7 years.

Authors of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) article also confirmed the established risk of stroke for women taking the dosage studied in the WHI. By quantifying this known risk more clearly, this study will help women and their healthcare providers individualize therapy for vasomotor symptoms and osteoporosis prevention, given their own risk/benefit profiles.
