Studies from University of Basel have provided new data on hyperthyroidism

"Until now, it remains elusive which strategy - antithyroid drug withdrawal or increased radioiodine target doses - should be preferred to avoid the detrimental effect of antithyroid drugs in high- and low-dose radioiodine therapy, respectively. We explored the effects of carbimazole on the 1-year post-radioiodine success and hypothyroidism rates by continuous dose-effect models, whereas success was defined as elimination of hyperthyroidism," scientists writing in the European Journal of Clinical Investigation report.
"Euthyroidism rates with and without carbimazole were calculated by numerical integration of the area between success and hypothyroidism curves....
