Judge dismisses Magee Pap smear lawsuit

A lawsuit over how the University of Pittsburgh's Magee-Womens Hospital conducted Pap smear tests was dismissed on April 15, 2004, by a judge who found that the women involved suffered no physical harm.

"We feel it was unfortunate that the women of the community were needlessly alarmed because of this lawsuit," said Deborah Linhart, interim president of Magee. Pap smear tests are routine screenings for gynecological cancers and tissue abnormalities. "The quality of Magee's lab is exemplary. The long-standing trust that women have in Magee is well founded," Linhart said.
