The law allows involuntary overtime during such emergencies as a disease outbreak, terrorist attack or natural disaster. It also protects nurses who refuse to work mandatory overtime from disciplinary actions by their employers, but does not shield whistle-blowers who report violations. The law also requires the state Division of Labor to notify hospitals of each complaint within three days.
