Tainted chili plaintiffs awarded $2.85 million in settlement

Six people who were hospitalized for botulism after eating tainted chili will receive $2.85 million in a negotiated settlement with Town Talk Foods, a discount grocer in Fort Worth, Texas, according to court documents.

Three families sued Town Talk Foods three years ago. A lawsuit against the Fort Worth-based chili distributor, Ben E. Keith, is pending.

Town Talk Foods is also suing Ben E. Keith and the chili manufacturer, First Original Texas Chili Co., to recoup money it paid in the settlement and other damages.
