Perioperative HRT not a risk factor for thrombosis after hip and knee surgery

Perioperative hormone replacement therapy isn't a risk factor for venous thromboembolism after hip and knee arthroplasty, a recent study determined.

According to J.G. Hurbanek, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and colleagues, "Hormone replacement therapy [HRT] has been associated with venous thromboembolism. Controversy exists regarding the appropriate management of hormone replacement in the perioperative setting and in other situations - such as acute illness - predisposing to acute venous thromboembolism.
