Progesterone therapy, alone or combined with estrogen, has adverse cognitive effects in ovariectomized aged rats.

Researchers, trying to understand the often conflicting results of hormone therapy (HT) on menopausal women, are studying the combinations of hormones being administered. Researchers at the Center for Aging, Medical University of South Carolina, examined the effects of the progesterone component of many hormone therapies. Their findings were presented at the 34th annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience, held in late October 2004.
