In a recent report published in the journal Archives of Dermatology, researchers in Italy conducted a study to "assess the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of facial injections of polylactic acid for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) 1-associated facial lipoatrophy, which commonly affects HIV-1-infected patients receiving combination antiretroviral therapy.
