Clinics share $1 million in grants from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Blue Care Network

Twenty-nine free clinics in 24 Michigan communities that in the last year provided low- or no-cost healthcare to an estimated 72,000 uninsured or underinsured state residents, plus two new clinics, will share in grants totaling $1 million from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and its HMO subsidiary Blue Care Network.

This is the second straight year the Michigan Blues are awarding grants to support the state's network of free clinics. Twenty-one of the 31 clinics received grants in 2005 as well. Each clinic relies on volunteer support from local medical professionals and others to provide free or low-cost healthcare to the uninsured.
