According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 6th Symposium on Gene Therapy: Towards Gene Therapeutics, held May 4-6, 1998, at the Max Delbruck Center for Molecular Medicine, Berlin-Buch, Germany, "Based on the capability to infect a broad range of different cell types, replication deficient, recombinant adenoviral (Ad) vectors are widely used as a gene transfer system. Because Ad vectors can infect target cell rapidly and translocate to the nucleus via endosomal pathways, they are one of the most efficient vector systems for in vivo gene transfer.
