One-third of young adults who outgrow asthma may relapse by age 26

One-third of teenagers with a childhood history of asthma who no longer have symptoms at age 18 will have a recurrence of asthma symptoms by the time they're 26, according to a study presented at the American Thoracic Society International Conference.

"The risk of asthma relapse in adulthood may be of concern with regard to employment in occupations where asthma would pose a risk, such as aviation or fire fighting," said lead researcher Robin Taylor, MD, of the University of Otago School of Medicine in Dunedin, New Zealand.
