Chronic hepatitis C virus infection is associated with CD8+ T-cell failure

Recent research from Germany has reported on intrahepatic CD8+ T-cell failure during chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection.

"The precise mechanisms responsible for the failure of intrahepatic HCV-specific CD8+ T cells to control the virus during persistent infection have not been fully defined," wrote H.C. Spangenberg and colleagues, University of Freiburg Hospital.
