Sample size calculation tables improve test study design accuracy

A novel technique for sample size calculation can be used to improve the design accuracy of diagnostic test studies.

"Guidelines for conducting studies and reading medical literature on diagnostic tests have been published," and "requirements for the selection of cases and controls, and for ensuring a correct reference standard are now clarified," scientists in France explained.

To "provide tables for sample size determination in this context," A. Flahault and colleagues at Hôpital Tenon in Paris conducted a study and published the results in the Journal of Clinical Epidemiology.
