North Carolina Medical Society suit claims unfair practices by United Healthcare

A physician's advocacy group has sued United Healthcare, claiming the health care system harmed doctors with unfair business practices that deny and delay payments for medical care.

The lawsuit by the North Carolina Medical Society doesn't seek monetary damages. Instead it asks for a Wake County Superior Court ruling that will force United Healthcare "to change its deceptive, unfair and unlawful business practices."

The organization, which represents nearly 12,000 physicians and physician assistants practicing in North Carolina, said in April that it would sue.
