 F. tularensis LVS studied, effect on intracellular signaling defined

Recently published information from Sweden has demonstrated that Francisella tularensis LVS initially activates but subsequently down-regulates intracellular signaling and cytokine secretion in mouse monocytic and human peripheral blood mononuclear cells.

"Monocytic cells constitute an important defense mechanism against invading pathogens by recognizing conserved pathogens components. The recognition leads to activation of intracellular pathways involving nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kappa B) and mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK), such as the c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase (JNK), and p38.
