the Kunker auction house in Berlin, a rare Polish gold medal, with an original value of 50 ducats when struck in 1658, has sold for EUR 141,000.
The Polish king, Kasimir, is depicted on the obverse of the gold medal, while the reverse shows the liberation of the Polish city of Torun on the River Vistula from Swedish occupying forces.
Market for Historic Coins and Medals Still Strong
The total price of lots sold at the auction was over EUR 4.6 million, exceeding estimates of EUR 2.9 million by more than 50%. Numerous potential buyers wrangled...
