Shared Medical Appointments Provide New Paradigm for Chronic Care Management

The 15-minute doctor's visit is broken and in the era of chronic disease, we have to find new ways to care for the large numbers of patients who will need ongoing care, according to Ed Noffsinger, PhD., vice president of shared medical appointments and group-based disease management at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates/Atrius Health in Massachusetts.

Noffsinger presented his new comprehensive model of chronic care, centered on the group medical visit, to the World Health Congress 3rd Annual Chronic Care and Prevention Congress, meeting May 18-20.
