Insulin detemir lessens blood glucose variability in study

Insulin detemir, a long-acting basal insulin analog in late-stage development, was found to vary less in absorption and effect on blood glucose compared to neutral protamine Hagedorn (NPH) insulin or insulin glargine in people with type 1 diabetes, according to a study published in Diabetes.

In this first study (clamp) to systematically compare these three basal insulins, the results showed insulin detemir had less intrapatient variability of blood glucose than both NPH insulin and insulin glargine.
