New DNA technology used by tissue-banking firm to study diabetes

Asterand, the Detroit-based, venture-backed tissue banking company, is adopting new DNA amplification technology as part of a major international study to investigate the causes and cures for diabetes. The technology will permit scientists to extract genetic information from tiny quantities of human material such as a few cells obtained by donors using a simple mouthwash. It is being used by Asterand for the first time in Europe.
