Influence of phosphoinositide 3-kinase on T-cell activity reviewed

June 26th, 2004

The influence of phosphoinositide 3-kinases (PI3Ks) on T-cell activity has been reviewed.

PI3Ks "regulate diverse signaling pathways involved in growth, proliferation, survival, differentiation and metabolism," scientists in England explained. "In T cells, PI3Ks can be activated by a number of different receptors, including the TcR (T-cell receptor), co-stimulatory receptors, cytokine receptors and chemokine receptors."

"However, the specific roles of PI3Ks downstream of these receptors vary," noted K. Okkenhaug and colleagues working at the Babraham Institute in Cambridge. "An inactivating mutation in the leukocyte-specific PI3K isoform p110delta...
