New report shows that expiring patents may cost pharmaceutical industry $80 billion

According to a new report on the economic impact of generic drugs, more than $80 billion worth of blockbuster drugs faces patent expiration by 2008. These drugs risk losing 80% or greater market share when generic copies hit the market. The report, called "Combating Generics: Pharmaceutical Brand Defense," says that pharmaceutical industry brand managers can retain market share with advanced strategic planning and lifecycle management.
