Woman sues manufacturers of heartworm medicine

The manufacturers of a heartworm preventative treatment are being sued by a woman whose dog allegedly died after receiving the medication.

Fort Dodge Animal Health, Wyeth Corp. and American Home Products are accused of recklessly introducing ProHeart 6, an injectable heartworm preventative medication, to the market without giving consumers proper warning that their product could cause serious health risks or even death to canines, according to a lawsuit filed in Tulsa County District Court on September 22.

The Companion Animal Protection Society, or CAPS, announced the lawsuit on September 27, 2004.
