Medical center names chair of department of cardiothoracic surgery

Renowned heart-transplant surgeon Robert C. Robbins, MD, who is also researching the use of stem cells to repair tissue damaged by a heart attack, has been named chair of the department of cardiothoracic surgery at the Stanford University School of Medicine.

"Bobby is a highly accomplished researcher, surgeon and teacher," said Philip Pizzo, MD, dean of the medical school. "We carried out a comprehensive search for this position and in my opinion and that of the search committee, he was the very best candidate."
