Acupuncture not effective for pain management

Acupuncture does not appear to be an effective pain management tool for fibromyalgia patients.

"Fibromyalgia is a common chronic pain condition for which patients frequently use acupuncture," physicians in the United States explained.

"To determine whether acupuncture relieves pain in fibromyalgia," N.P. Assefi and colleagues at the University of Washington conducted a "randomized, sham-controlled trial in which participants, data collection staff, and data analysts were blinded to treatment group."
