Gestational diabetics post-bariatric surgery do not have worse antenatal outcomes

Previous bariatric surgery in patients with gestational diabetes mellitus is not associated with adverse perinatal outcome.

Investigators writing in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology reported, "The objective of [our] study was to investigate pregnancy outcome of patients with gestational diabetes mellitus following bariatric surgery."

E. Sheiner and colleagues of Ben Gurion University of the Negev in Beer-Sheva explained, "All births to patients with gestational diabetes mellitus delivered between the years 1988 and 2002 were included in the study.
