California Pharmacists Association Announces Medication Errors Estimated to Injure or Kill 150,000 Californians Annually and Contribute to Costs in Excess of $17 Billion

Today, California unveiled the findings of a long awaited report from the State's first Medication Errors Panel. The in-depth report focuses on the causes of medication errors in the outpatient setting and recommends changes in the healthcare system to protect consumers from errors associated with the use of prescription and over-the-counter medications. The report is the result of Senate Concurrent Resolution (SCR) 49, authored in 2005 by then Senator Jackie Speier and sponsored by the California Pharmacists Association.
