Alley Cat Allies Calls for Passage of New Jersey Anti-Freeze Bill

Alley Cat Allies, the national advocate for stray and feral cats, today called for passage of legislation in the New Jersey State Senate (S.B. 979) that would require a "bittering agent" be added to antifreeze sold in the state, which would alter the taste and repel animals, including cats, from ingesting it.

Similar legislation (A.1577) passed the state assembly earlier in the week.

"Anti-freeze tastes sweet and appealing, but contains extremely deadly ethylene glycol, and has been used with devastating effects by cruel people who kill animals, including outdoor cats," said Becky Robinson, president of Alley Cat Allies.
