Council of Prison Locals Mourns the Loss of a Fallen Federal Correctional Officer

The Council of Prison Locals (CPL) of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) is mourning the loss of a federal correctional officer killed in the line of duty. Jose Rivera, 22, was killed on Friday, June 20 by two inmates with homemade weapons at the United States Penitentiary in Atwater, Calif. Rivera was employed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) for less than a year. "We are deeply saddened by the untimely death of one of our correctional officers," said Bryan Lowry, CPL president. "Jose Rivera was a dedicated employee of the BOP, and this is a terrible loss. Our sympathies and condolences go out to his family at this very difficult time." ...
