Consumers Rights League Statement on ACORN's Million Dollar Scandal



July 26th, 2008

James Terry, the Chief Public Advocate for the Consumers Rights League, issued the following statement in response to the New York Times article ("Funds Misappropriated at 2 Nonprofit Groups") detailing how members of ACORN's leadership team covered up an internal embezzlement scandal for nearly eight years. The scandal -- which involved nearly $1 million in stolen funds by the brother of the organization's founder, Wade Rathke -- was never disclosed to law enforcement authorities or to ACORN's Board of Directors.
