Gentium Announces Italian Legal Proceeding

Gentium S.p.A. (NASDAQ: GENT) (the "Company") announced that a legal proceeding has been commenced against the Company's Board of Directors and Board of Statutory Auditors in the Court of Como in Italy seeking to prevent a proposed financing transaction from proceeding and alleging misconduct in connection with that transaction. The action was brought by Sigma Tau Finanziaria S.p.A. and a related entity, which together with their affiliates beneficially hold approximately 18% of the Company's outstanding securities. The Court has scheduled an initial hearing in September on this matter and has issued an interim measure ordering that the proposed transaction not proceed. ...
