First National Public Health Summit Emphasizes Role of Survivorship in Breast Cancer Advocacy

According to the American Cancer Society, there are approximately 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States and 182,460 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in 2008. Recognizing the continuing health threat posed by breast cancer and the unique role that survivors can play as advocates for improved access to prevention and treatment, Women In Government -- a nonprofit, bipartisan organization of women state legislators -- will host its first annual Breast Cancer Policy is Personal: Legislative Survivors' Summit focusing on advances in breast cancer treatment and prevention, health disparities, and utilizing survivorship in advocacy.
